Research Foundation of the LEADERSHIP ARCHITECT® Suite
The LEADERSHIP ARCHITECT® Competencies and Career Stallers and Stoppers are based on the competency work done across many years at the Center for Creative Leadership, Hay-McBer, Sears, Exxon, AT&T, and thousands of professional studies summarized in The Handbook of Leadership from CCL. Our goal was to come up with the fewest number of competencies we could that have been shown to relate to success at work.
We have tested these competencies empirically since 1994. Overall, 66 of the 67 LEADERSHIP ARCHITECT® Competencies and 18 of the 19 Career Stallers and Stoppers have significant relationships with independent measures of performance or potential. We have related proficiency at our competencies to bonus levels, stock options, profitability and exceeding sales targets for sales managers, and retention of key staff.
We extended our work to predictive studies in which we showed that the competencies predict both promotion and performance years later.
An internal company study found that after using our competencies and developmental materials, turnover dropped from 30% to below 10%; acceptance of offers went from 40% to 70%; and employee satisfaction increased significantly.
